1.Get to know people . Randomly strike up conversations in the cafeteria line, at a party, or one of your classes. These people can introduce you to new experiences, ideas, and activities.
Your roommate can be another social outlet. Get to know each other's friends.
2.Organize social activities such as an outing with your floormates.
3.Join one or two activities you care about . If you can't find a club that suits your particular interests, start one!
4.Do community service . It's fulfilling, plus you get to know other students. Go on a Habitat for Humanity build, clean up a river, or teach English to recent immigrant-- the possibilities are endless.
5.Show enthusiasm in classes . You'll gain more from the classroom experience, and can meet other people who care about the same subjects.
Tips
Don't be shy. Clubs and service groups are always happy for new, enthusiastic members.
Internships can be another way to get involved.
If you see someone with his/her schedule in hand and it looks as if he/she is trying to figure out where to go next, walk up to him/her and say, "Are you looking for a class?" Most likely, the answer will be 'yes' and you'll be remembered for your kind action.
Don't over schedule yourself in an effort to be involved. You'll be happier if you pick one or two commitments you truly care about.
